KERKOVIUS, Ruth (1921-2007)
“Farms and Hills — A Bit of Sky”
1972
color etching
17.5 inches by 21.5 inches
It is unusual for the Community Collection to have three works by the same artist and even more remarkable that they came to the collection from different sources. Ruth Kerkovius’ etching “Farms and Hills — A Bit of Sky” depicts a landscape more European than American, a recollection perhaps of her youth in Latvia. A student at the Art Students League of Antonio Frasconi, her color palette draws from a muted range of blues and greens with accents of barn red softened by distance.
