American artist James Harrington continues to paint from his studio in New York. His work is represented through several galleries in the northeast.
While a student at the Art Students League, Harrington encountered the teachings of Robert Henri (1865-1929), mentor of the “Ashcan School.” His day job as an apprentice bricklayer and the daily commute to worksites throughout the city is reflected in Harrington’s choice of subject: street scenes, shipyards, everyday activities by ordinary people. Our small work shows fishing in the marshy coastal waters of a place like eastern Long Island in loose impressionistic brush strokes.
